Finally made it back here after sixteen years. The price has doubled, but the food is much better. The hot springs are beautiful. Hopefully, I can make it back again.
Rustic ryokan in Sakunami onsen area. Great food and nice baths. Foods are buffets for both dinner and breakfast.
The outdoor baths near the river are open for limited time for women. The road for the outdoor bath are a long wooden stairs giving this establishment a unique experience to remember.
Nice traditional onsen hotel. The indoor bath was pretty basic. However, the outdoor one was very impressive. Built into the gorge with a river running beside it. A very relaxing place to spend time. Just note that it's a mixed bath, if that would worry you. A bit pricey for a day entry at ¥1500, bit they do pick you up and drop you off at the JR station, which was good.
Very nice place, food served in a buffet style. There are indoor and outdoor onsens, the outdoor one has a pretty nice view on the river and small waterfall. The rooms are simple but decent. Overall recommend, if you want a chill overnight stay with food and onsen included for cheap price.
I went last Saturday with two friends to enjoy a bath in the Onsen during a day trip from Sendai.
However, the guardian told us that the Onsen is apparently closed.
There are 5 sources of hot spring. One for inner baths, four for out-air baths, one place but four bathes, each bath has own source.
Though it is displaying signs of ageing, it is a very well kept ryokan. The staff are quite friendly and helpful and the food at the dinner buffet is good. However, the rooms need to be refurbished and have a permanent air of cigarette smoke from years of exposure. The highlight though is it's outside rotembouro. It is straddling a small babbling brook stocked with small Ayu fish. Serenity and peaceful are words that best describe this open air bath.
Staff was willing to go above and beyond to service my needs. I asked if there was any anime on the channels and the gentleman at the counter personally checked for channels and wrote the times and how to operate the remote. No complaints.
